Year 2 visit Paul Smith’s headquarters and shops.

We have had an amazing final week of our topic on Famous Faces.
Firstly, on Tuesday, Mr Akins came to school to talk about all the bands and singers he has met and worked with through the venues he owns and concerts he organises. We got to see a fantastic video showing how ‘Splendour’ (the annual festival at Wollaton Park run by Mr Akins) is organised and set up and then he brought some great posters for us to see,
Then, on Wednesday, Year 2 went to visit Paul Smith’s headquarters, warehouse, his first shop on Byard Lane and his flagship store, Willoughby House. Both classes (and staff) had an amazing time and I hope they knew what a privilege it was to be allowed into the design and pattern studios. We were able to see many momentos that belonged to Paul Smith himself including his Mini’s and an amazing moving model which demonstrated his process when bringing new products to customers.
A special thank you must go to Mrs Dodd, Mrs Rana and Mr Black for their time and work in organising this fabulous trip.

The circus comes to town

Today was ‘Circus Day’ and 2W have had fun with a variety of activities from writing a story about a not so funny clown, painting Big-tops and jugglers and of course a visit from our circus man Jay, who had many circus skills! He taught us to use a diablo, juggle with colourful scarfs, use juggling sticks, balance giant feathers on our noses and learn how to spin plates. We had a lot of fun!

2W become the NHIS news team!

This week in Literacy, 2W have become news researchers, script writers, editors and news presenters and have had a really enjoyable week.
This work was the culmination of our Literacy focus on Non-Chronological reports.
The class were given a choice of Sport or Florence Nightingale to report upon and it may of be no surprise to say that the former was the most popular choice!
They then had to use a range of resources to research their subject, turn this research into a script, edit that script to make it perfect and the present the news item.
The class worked so hard that they were all presented with the star this week, well done.
We hope you enjoy our presentations.

Checking out the eclipse!

What an exciting day we have had! This morning we watched the eclipse take place! We made a special pin hole camera that where we could watch the moon cover the sun by looking at the shadow of it on the wall. We then went back to the classroom to watch the full eclipse live on the BBC website – it was very exciting!

Happy Red Nose Day!

2W celebrate World Book Day 2015

blog photo blog photo 2We have had a fantastic day, filled with fun, workshops and as you can see super costumes, including all the staff. The children were asked to dress up as a rhyming character or Nursery rhyme and they have certainly put a lot of thought into their costumes, well done.
We all took part in a superb workshop with author Pippa Pixley, who originates from Nottingham. We made a storybook with a 3-d pop up castle and she read us one of her beautiful picture books, so a big thank you to her.
