A Victorian Christmas

On Wednesday 3rd December, Year 2 went to visit Newstead Abbey to take part in a traditional Victorian Christmas activity day. We all had to dress up as Victorian children. We were divided into two groups and both of the groups had lots of fun doing a range of exciting tasks including Victorian games in the Great Hall such as ‘Flap the Kipper, Sleeping lions and Quack, Quack statues’ to making herbal remedies and sewing the muslin bags for them. We also went into the kitchen and made sugar mice, we created puppets for, and took part in a Shadow puppet show and then found out where the phrase ‘in the limelight’ originated from during a Magic Lantern show. It really was a very busy and thoroughly enjoyable day. Mrs Williams said our behaviour was excellent and the day has really made us feel very Christmassy!
