Let’s Go Fly a Kite up to the highest height oh let’s go fly a kite!

Literacy this week has been all about kites! First the boys had to design a kite on a given shape and fill in a design brief. The boys were given a range of materials to use that included tissue paper, art straws, paper strips and sellotape. Then they had to make thier kites thinking carefully about each step they had to do.
Once their kite was finished they then had to write the set of simple instructions to show how they had made thier kite.

Our trip to the Arboretum.

Monday saw the boys off to the Arboretum, armed with clipboards and pencils, to make an obersvational drawing of the bandstand. The boys sauntered through the park soaking up the calm, tranquility atmosphere and trying to picture the people through the ages that would have used the park during their free time.
The boys then stopped at the bandstand to do an observational drawing. They learnt that there has been a bandstand on or near this area since 1881. The first bandstand was moved from Castle Green to the Arboretum in 1881 and placed in front of the Refreshment Rooms which now no longer exsist.
This was the first week of the historical study of theeir school’s locality.
